.: five countries' tour :.

Though this was only the first day of a long deferred vacation, rising very, very early, we were able to cruise, covering a lot of ground but with time to spare and to savour the experiences and new impressions, we traveled from Germany, through Austria and Liechtenstein to Switzerland and Lombardy in the north of Italy.
Due to the wet and rainy prevailing conditions that we were leaving behind, we changed our itinerary a bit at the last moment and decided to mostly pass through Swiss territory along a more direct route towards Lake Como, where we could be reasonably assured or better weather—though are vacations have never been quite magnets for bad weather, and saving the Swiss experience for the return leg of our journey.
We did stop in Chur, the oldest city in the Confederation, along the way to visit the distinctive old town and perfect timing treated us to an impressive Alpenhorn concert. We took in a lot of incredible scenery along the way, but unlike some other places we've been there were kind of regrettable, sorrowful opportunities for picture taking, due to the lack of rest stops with scenic views. The casual tourists would need to infiltrate a local at the nearest exit in order to properly capture some of these landscapes.
Approaching Italy via the Lake Lugano region, we stopped there to begin marvelling at the pronounced beauty of the place and reflect on the changes in Swiss culture and language. In the late afternoon, we arrived on the shores of Lake Como and after another wonderfuly scenic stretch of road along the beach (not recommended for the nervous-driver types due to the size of roads and the Italian style of driving) and to our first campsite, in a village called Dongo, on the north-western shores. Not morbid or creepy but rather picturesque and serene, the camp is set in a church yard right on the lake, with bells chiming throughout and waves lapping
