We had a very fulfilled last day in Trassenheide, relaxing on the beach, and visited the big metropolis--the capital of Usedom, Wolgast.
Early, well ealier, we got up to depart for the Island of Ruegen. Back on the mainland, we took a look around Hanseatic Greifswald and explored the old city, after a stop at the ruins of the cloister Eldena, a part of the European wide brick gothic strasse, and the old wooden drawbridge at the fishing village of Wieck.
It was only a short distance to the next island, but it seemed like we covered a lot of ground, the trip protracted a bit by a surprise ferry ride. On the way via the regal bath town of Putbus, we drove along another strasse, another corridor of trees stretching into the horizon. We aimed for the beaches of Sellin and found a campsite at nearby Goehren. It was later in the afternoon and not wanting to find all campsites with no vacancies, we took this one--but it turned out to be a bit of bust.
We were assigned a place on top of steep sandy hill that Lady, the VW bus, could not quite manage and after a hot afternoon in the baking sun, we eased the exhausted Lady into her mooring which turned out to be in a parking lot opposite the bathrooms. Ah well, the beach with the craggy landscape turned out to be a nice reward, and we are still having a very nice time. Perhaps the Lady should be called Diva.
